What are the precautions when using GEL batteries
The colloidal lead-acid battery uses a gel-like electrolyte, and there is no free liquid inside.
Under the same volume, the electrolyte capacity is large, the heat capacity is large, and the heat dissipation ability is strong,
which can prevent the general battery from being prone to thermal runaway;
The electrolyte concentration is low, which is weak for corrosion of the electrode plate;
the concentration is uniform, and there is no electrolyte layering phenomenon.
The following is to share with you the precautions for the use of GEL batteries.
1. Pulse charging, a simple and economical method is to rectify the low-voltage AC output from the transformer secondary to pulsating DC (without filtering) to charge the battery.
This method has a large charging current and a fast charging speed. The disadvantage is that when the grid voltage fluctuates, the charging current also fluctuates.
Occurs due to high charging current, increased battery temperature, and large electrolyte loss
As a result, the battery is damaged, this method is rarely used for maintenance-free sealed lead-acid batteries.
The charging current is adjusted to be relatively small and the charging time is longer.
Besides, if the charging time is too long, overcharge will occur. To prevent damage to the battery due to overcharge, an additional overcharge detection or timing circuit is required.
Even if the charging time is very long, there is no danger, and the battery can still work in floating charge.
2. Use constant current to charge to prevent too high temperature rise in the battery and too much electrolyte loss.
3. Constant voltage charging, both theory and practice have proved that constant voltage charging is safe when the charging voltage is lower than the upper limit of the charging voltage (for 12V batteries)
Precautions for charging gel batteries:
Don't wait for the gel battery to run out and recharge it. You should charge it in time after discharge.
It's better to use quality chargers to charge battery, which will help improve the service life of colloidal batteries.
The battery should be fully charged and stored in a cool and dry place, away from heat sources, and away from direct sunlight.
The battery should be recharged before storage for more than one month,
and we should deep charge and discharge battery once at least if the battery will be storage for more than three months.
When charging in hot weather, we should pay attention to the battery temperature not to be too high, do not charge the battery, if the hand feels too hot, you can stop and recharge.
The temperature is low in winter, and the battery is easily undercharged, so the charging time can be extended appropriately.
If it is a set of batteries, when a single problem is found, it should be replaced in time, which can extend the life of the entire set.
